As of September 2016, the Tom Moan Award Fund contained principal of $25,604. Interest from the fund account supports an annual distribution to benefit award recipient(s).

From 1986 through 2008, the award fund was used to provide award recipients with a plaque, along with a cash award. Since 2009 (beginning with award recipient Jim Mollerstrom), the award fund has been used to help send the current recipient of the Tom Moan Award to the Child Welfare League of America's annual conference in Washington, D.C. It also provides award recipients with a plaque, and places their names on the permanent Tom Moan Award trophy housed in Salem, Oregon at the Department of Human Services.
